Operator and contact

howtostopusingfillerwords.com operates this page itself. For anything about data, email hello@howtostopusingfillerwords.com.

The um counter

The counter never listens to you. It only adds up the buttons you tap. When a minute ends, your rate and the date are written to your own browser so the log can show your last ten rounds. That log never leaves your device, and clearing the site's data wipes it.

Counting visits

No account, no name, no email. A small script reports that the page was opened, roughly how much of it was scrolled, which app link was clicked, the referring page, browser language, device system and an anonymous code kept in your browser to tell first visits from repeat ones. An approximate region is worked out from your IP address, which is then not kept whole.

Where that goes

Those reports travel through a relay on this domain to an analytics provider that keeps them on servers in the EU. We read them in bulk to learn which sections help readers. They are never sold or passed to ad networks.

Browser storage, no cookies

Besides the counter log, your browser holds the anonymous code, a visit timer reset after half an hour of quiet, your theme choice and whether you closed the bottom bar. No cookies are used. Blocking scripts leaves the page readable and switches all counting off.

Links to the app

Every app link goes to /um-counter here, which checks only your browser type and sends Android phones to Google Play, with the link's spot on the page added as referral info, and everything else to the App Store. That hop stores nothing. Once you land in a store, Apple's or Google's terms and the app's own policy take over.

Deleting your data

Email us and we will erase whatever is linked to your anonymous code. Clearing this site's storage yourself breaks that link at once, since we cannot tell who you are.
